The 123rd Contingency Response Element’s command center for National Level Exercise 2011 is located on the edge of the flight line at Springfield-Branson National Airport in Springfield, Mo. The CRE can land at a non-functional airport, secure a perimeter around the airfield, and set up a command center in which they can start directing other aircraft to land. National Level Exercise 2011 is based on a scenario involving a massive earthquake along the New Madrid fault line, requiring extensive aeromedical evacuation of injured patients. The 123rd CRE was responsible for establishing an initial-response air hub in Springfield during the exercise. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Maxwell Rechel)
