PA team earns three awards from National Guard Bureau

KENTUCKY AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Members of the 123rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs team took home three awards in the 2013 National Guard Bureau Media Contest, which recognizes the best work of hundreds of public affairs professionals across the Air National Guard.

Staff Sgt. Vicky Spesard won second place in the news division for an article covering the deployment of Kentucky Air Guard services troops in support of President Barack Obama's inauguration in Washington, D.C.; and Master Sgt. Phil Speck took home two third-place honors, one for news photography and another for documentation photography.

"I am extremely proud of the hard work of our public affairs professionals," said Maj. Dale Greer, chief of public affairs for the 123rd Airlift Wing. "Their outstanding coverage helps keep the wing, the broader military community and the general public informed about the great things we do in the Kentucky Air Guard.

"They also honor a tradition of public affairs excellence stretching back decades. The 123rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs Office has now won more than 70 national awards from the National Guard Bureau, U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense since 1995 -- a sustained level of performance that is unmatched in the Air Force Public Affairs community."
