Kentucky Air Guardsmen evacuate hundreds from Virgin Islands

Twelve members of the Kentucky Air National Guard’s 123rd Airlift Wing and two of the unit’s C-130 aircraft helped evacuate more than 1,000 U.S. citizens from the Dutch Caribbean island of St. Maarten Sept. 9-10, 2017, flying them to safety in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Irma. The Kentucky Airmen, who personally evacuated more than 400 people, were part of a team that included aircraft and Airmen from the New York Air Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing and the Puerto Rico Air Guard’s 156th Airlift Wing.
