Family members who've lost loved ones in military service to the United States stand in the winner’s circle with a trophy for the victor of the 5th race at Churchill Downs Racetrack in Louisville, Ky., Nov. 5, 2023. The 5 1/2-furlong maiden contest, named the Race for Survivors of the Fallen Military Heroes, was won by Halina’s Forte, a 2-year-old filly, with jockey Martin Garcia aboard. The event, hosted with assistance from the Kentucky National Guard, was part of Survivor’s Day at the Races and drew more than 700 family members from 18 states.
